We all have our routines. Wake up, coffee, work, commute, screen time, repeat. It’s comfortable, sure, but sometimes the monotony starts to feel a little heavy.
Then, there’s my girlfriend.
If there is one thing she excels at, it’s dragging me away from the comfortable trap of my couch and into the great outdoors. And when I say "drag," I mean it in the best way possible. This past weekend was no exception: she had that look in her eye, grabbed the backpack, and declared that we were heading into the woods.
No itinerary, no signal, and no expectations—just the wilderness.
Leaving the Noise Behind
There is something transformative about stepping under a canopy of trees. The second the pavement disappears and the sound of traffic is replaced by the crunch of leaves and the rustle of wind, my shoulders drop about three inches.
Whether we’re hiking a known trail or just finding a secluded spot to set up a hammock, the woods have a way of stripping away the "noise" of daily life. There’s no pressure to answer emails or check social media. In the woods, the only thing that matters is the person standing next to you.
Reconnecting in the Wild
People often talk about "getting back to nature," but they rarely talk about how it brings you back to your partner.
When you’re out there, away from the artificial constraints of our busy lives, you become more present. There isn’t a TV to distract you or a chore list waiting in the kitchen. It’s just raw, unfiltered time. It’s in those quiet, intimate moments under the trees—where the rest of the world feels miles away—that things feel the most electric.
There’s a specific kind of freedom that comes with being completely alone in the middle of nowhere. It turns a simple afternoon hike into an adventure you’ll remember for months. Whether it’s sharing a thermus of coffee at the summit or finding a private clearing to just stop and be together, it’s these spontaneous detours that keep the spark alive.
Why You Should Let Yourself Be "Dragged"
If your partner is the type to suggest a random road trip or a hike at dawn, my advice is simple: Say yes.
We get so caught up in planning and productivity that we forget the value of just being. My girlfriend might be the one pushing us out the door, but I’m always the one who comes home feeling refreshed, recharged, and way more connected to her.
Life is short. Sometimes, you just need to leave the phone behind, head into the woods, and remember what it’s like to be truly present.
